Drapes and rigging specialist Blackout launches StarLED - a revolutionary new LED starcloth product that will be manufactured at their South London HQ.

StarLED is an LED based system, which offers an ultra bright, lightweight and DMX controllable alternative to fibre-optic and pea-bulb lit cloths.

StarLED has massive potential as a creative design tool. It can enhance the most sophisticated lighting or set designs and is ideal for a multitude of applications, including architectural, corporate, entertainment and leisure-build projects.

StarLED is manufactured to the highest specifications, combining a new lightweight IFR Molton Trevira fabric, with high intensity LED emitters and DMX controllability.

StarLED systems are available in two versions - White and RGB. The White version offers a stunning galaxy-like effect, whilst the RGB cloth allows access to a vibrant rainbow spectrum of colours via DMX control.

Designed to be exceptionally versatile, StarLED cloths are available in a range of widths and in one metre increments in height up to 12 metres. Extremely robust and practically designed, all StarLED cloths are backed with IFR Polyester Trevira and come finished with top ties and Velcro all around for overlapping. Half the weight of wool serge alternatives, StarLED cloths are easy to man handle and very user-friendly.

In addition StarLED is extremely energy efficient compared to other systems' one 150W, 24V PSU is enough to control 192 m2 of white cloth or 72 m2 in RGB.

The StarLED module contains a single surface mount LED fitted to a small printed circuit board. Encapsulated in a moulded polycarbonate holder and attached to the back of the cloth, this offers the maximum viewing angle for the light source plus superior mechanical protection.

Each cloth contains a discreet, compact local low voltage (self-terminating) controller, taking power in at 24V DC and DMX data via a 4pin XLR cable.

StarLED's floor based power supplies are designed as independent units with IEC mains input connectors, thus enabling 13 amp, 15 amp, Shuko or Cee-form supply. Each power supply uses standard DMX 512 via a 5pin XLR connector, allowing the DMX "start address" of the cloths to be set by rotary switches. Additional switches allow pre-programmed effects to be selected in the absence of any DMX signal.

Voltage can be selected between 110 or 230 VAC 50-60 Hz via an internal switch.

White LED cloths are available as 4 circuit cloths with an average density of 6.6 LEDS/m2. The RGB cloths are supplied as 3 circuits with an average density of 6 LEDS/m2.

Blackout's MD Steve Tuck says, "LED is the future for starcloth. We think our StarLED is the best version on the market at present and we hope to develop this technology and bring out more exciting products in the future."
