The L'Oreal Competition Final

Drapes and rigging specialist Blackout was appointed by CS Media to help realise the stunning set design for L'Oreal's 50th Colour Trophy Grand Final.
Staged in London's Earls Court 2, and hosted by celebrity presenter Graham Norton, over 3,000 hairdressers and press from the UK and overseas attended the event, which is considered the world's longest running contemporary hairdressing competition.
Blackout's Project Manager, Chris Brain, collaborated with CS Events, Managing Director, Clive Silver, and their appointed Set Designer, Martin Sutherland, to design and supply a variety of 'softs', which played an integral role in the success of the set design.
From the entrance through to the reception area, Blackout dressed the tunnel 'walkway' with stunning StarLED cloth. Manufactured by Blackout at their south London HQ, it provided an ultra-bright white effect.
For the 'pink' themed reception area, which became the post event After-party zone, Blackout supplied over 2,000 square metres of shimmering white voile. Suspended with 100% fullness over rich red velour fabric, it was up-lit to create a fabulous pink scene at the start of the evening. Later on, when the Afterparty kicked in, the voile helped shift the mood as the semi-translucent fabric absorbed and reflected the changing colour sequences.
In the main arena, Blackout supplied over 2,500 square metres of starcloth. Suspended around the perimeter, it offered a magical galaxy-like effect, for the 2,500 guests enjoying the awards and gala dinner.
For the stage Blackout provided the 45 metre x 9 metre cyc backdrop. Fabricated out of white filled cloth, Blackout's team carefully cut 'doorway' holes into the fabric, so models could enter and exit the stage and giant catwalk.
Finishing off, Blackout built a number of ground-supported tank trap structures, which were covered with black wool serge drape and utilised as partitioning for the catering and kitchen facilities.
