Newham, London, UK, 12 and 13 July 2008 - Around 55,000 people flocked to the Mayor's Newham Show in East Ham's Central Park for a weekend of family fun, with dozens of events including a spectacular fashion show and featuring performances from live bands in the Big Top tent.
Blackout, the largest supplier of drapes, rigging, starcloth and track helped provide the Big Top's theatrical setting for performances including a tribute to Elvis Presley, with impersonator Sal Bashir, the Brick Lane Music Hall and the Bassline Circus.
A large ground-supported grid standing on ten self-climbing towers was clad with white voile drapes, red velour headers and wings, and Blackout¹s draped tracks allowed access for acts and equipment seamlessly to the stage which was finished with their stage skirt. The highly skilled Blackout crew, headed by Ken Nock, took several unpredicted challenges in their stride, including the poor weather conditions, and having to re-configure trusses and towers to fit around the Big Top's queen poles following two sets of changes to the tent's specifications.
The result made a major contribution to the dramatic impact of the Big Top, and Mayor Sir Robin Wales declared the whole NewhamCouncil event a brilliant success. Newham Council's Jayne Quinton commented "The dressing and final effect was exactly what we were looking for, finished to the highest standard. An all round great service."
