Blackout's Graduation

For the third year running Blackout has worked for Pandemonium Productions Ltd to provide all rigging and draping to help transform the Indoor Athletics Centre into a suitable venue for Brunel University's Graduation Ceremonies.
Blackout used approximately 250m of truss for lighting, sound, AV, the set and drapes, hung on 36 Motors. Grey wool serge drapes were used for the presentation stage wings with black wool serge to black out any window light. Black wool serge drapes were also used with white filled cloth drapes to create an arched effect to both curved ends of the room. Custom made white Eclipse drapes covered skylights to provide a sun shade for the projection screens and blue velour drapes formed the backdrop to the stage.
The whole floor area is a rubberised indoor athletics space and, as such, has to be protected at all times whilst building and de-rigging. Blackout took extra precautions to ensure no damage was inflicted to the floor even though it necessitated using a smaller cherry picker than would normally be required. Blackout's experience ensured that the job went in very quickly and smoothly.
Tom Lambert, Blackout's project manager, worked closely with Pandemonium's Production Director Simon Garrett, to ensure the success of each of the nine ceremonies including one Special Sports Award to Dame Kelly Holmes. Blackout's crew worked with their usual ability to combine attention to detail with speed. Simon Garrett commented: "This is the third year Pandemonium has had the privilege of organising the Brunel Graduation Ceremony at the Indoor Athletics Centre. We have a remit to protect the fabric of the building in production and are always delighted with the professionalism and care shown by the Blackout staff in supporting this remit".
