London, UK, 17 August 2007 - Once again for the 12th year running, Blackout provided a complex range of equipment for this year's British Record Industry Trust (BRIT) Awards 2007 held in association with MasterCard at Earls Court 1, London on 14 February 2007.
MJK Productions produced the BRIT Awards which is the biggest music show of the year with production manager, Mick Kluczynski overseeing the whole operation. Blackout's team was headed by installation directors Chris Brain and Kevin Monks who were responsible for supplying services for three areas including the main show, artists back stage lounge and the legendary after-show party.
The main show designed by Mark Fisher and Nicoline Refsing of Stufish was encased with a huge amount of black wool serge drapes which created a double perimeter to the massive Earls Court 1 auditorium. Catering kitchens and storage areas were also created using Blackout's EAsi-Build Pipe and Drape.
On the stage along with the usual masking drapes and equipment entrances, Blackout supplied over 100m of Tabtrack for the different looks for the show. Blackout also supplied a 20 x 9 metre red filled cloth for the Winner of the Best Female category, Amy Winehouse performance set which Blackout had dyed specifically to match the red of the set carpet.
In one of the highlights of the show, Blackout created in association with Steel Monkey the impressive Killers set, Winners of Best International Artist and Best Album. A banner depicting an advertisement hoarding was the opening look of the Killers performance, constructed out of Litebeam truss and steel tubing, complete with band logo placed within a desert. Utilising Blackout's new inline solenoid Kabuki system the front banner was then dropped to the ground to reveal the band standing in a room encased with red velour. As a finale, these drapes were kabukied to the ground revealing a video screen backdrop.
The Bruce French designed, backstage Artist bar was an opulent and relaxing area surrounded by red velour drapes and red casement ceilings. Individual spaces were divided with red voile drapes to create a mysterious and warming environment for the stars to prepare for the show. This high-security area was swathed in Blackout's drapes to ensure that prying eyes could not see in.
French also designed the after show party held in the Brompton Hall of Earls Court. The party is as important to the invited audience as the main show and it is integral to the Brit Awards experience. This year's theme was Love Street where Blackout supplied vast amounts of StarLED Starcloth to provide a huge sparkling ceiling and the walls for the main party area. Blackout also themed the additional surrounded areas with red velour, white sheeting, white and red voile, black wool serge and installed ceilings throughout. A large quantity of Blackout's Easi-Build Pipe and Drape was used to create the many peripheral areas around the party.
"We're very proud of what we have achieved in the three individual areas of the show which clearly demonstrates our creativity for producing an outstanding look and atmosphere. It's also a pleasure to work with MJK Productions and all the companies involved in the set-up of this prestigious UK event" comments Kevin Monks.
